Safe Plastic Surgery in Cancun, Mexico

Get treated by certified professionals

During the 42nd National Congress of the Mexican Association of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery held in Zacatecas in 2011, the permanent “Safe Plastic Surgery” campaign was launched. The AMCPER (Mexican Association of Plastic, Aesthetic, and Reconstructive Surgeons) is a non-profit Civil Association, founded 62 years ago, that brings together all the Certified Plastic Surgeons in Mexico. This campaign is aimed at the general public, but especially those people who, for various reasons, such as correcting physical defects or improving their appearance, find themselves in need of undergoing different procedures offered by the scientific advancements of Plastic Surgery. The campaign was launched due to the alarming rise of "medical professionals" who, lacking any scruples and above all any ethical standards, collude with hospitals, anesthetists, implant and supply providers of questionable quality, and perform surgeries in rudimentary and unsanitary conditions with the sole aim of making money. These individuals dare to perform plastic surgeries, completely devoid of the necessary academic and practical preparation, resulting in complications caused by their ineptitude that they are unable to resolve, putting at risk the physical and moral integrity and even the lives of those who place their trust in them, victims of insufficient information who are also lured by the "good prices" these medical charlatans offer.

Plastic Surgeons Certified by the Mexican Council of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Anyone wishing to undergo such a procedure should request the necessary credentials to verify the authenticity of the certification obtained through the Mexican Council of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. To be a certified plastic surgeon, applicants must have completed 6 years of study to obtain a General Medicine degree, followed by four years of specialty as a General Surgeon, 3 years of sub-specialization in Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, and pass the highly difficult exam administered by the Mexican Council of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Only upon meeting these requirements can one practice this specialty. It is worth noting that this exam is based on the same criteria used in the United States, Canada, and Europe, which is why plastic surgery performed in Mexico is recognized worldwide.

Plastic surgeons are qualified at the Congress held annually at the national level, where they must obtain 20 points. Every 5 years, they must have accumulated 100 curriculum points in their specialty or other types of points if they have attended additional courses to meet the required continuing education. If they fail to meet the required points as set by the Mexican Council of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, the Council will NOT grant recertification, and they will need to be re-examined.
