Prior to surgery, patients may spend considerable time preparing for surgery. Preparations include pre-operative testing and learning about their aftercare. But what happens immediately after surgery, when the procedure is over? The purpose of this blog post is to answer that question for patients.

POST-OPERATIVE INDICATIONS

Considering everything goes well after surgery, patients must:

  • Attend to all follow-up appointments, in case they don’t, patients must send after-pictures by email when requested, otherwise they’ll automatically lose Dr. Carmona’s guarantee of work.
  • Have someone drive you home after surgery and help you at home for 1-2 days.
  • Be aware that you will not be able to fly for one week and after your first visit following your operation.
  • Follow a balanced diet, eating as healthy as possible.
  • Decreased activity may promote constipation, so you may want to add more raw fruit to your diet, and be sure to increase fluid intake.
  • Take pain medication as prescribed. Do NOT take aspirin or any products containing aspirin unless approved by your surgeon.
  • Do NOT drink alcohol (as it causes fluid retention) when taking pain medications.
  • Do NOT smoke, as smoking delays healing and increases the risk of complications, otherwise the guarantee of Dr. Carmona’s work won’t be      valid anymore.
  • Get plenty of rest.
  • You must not bend over
  • Relax and massage shoulders.
  • Do NOT lift any heavy objects
  • Sleep in a semi-seated position with pillows behind the back.
  • Walk at least 20 min each day after 2 days of surgery.
  • Do not be exposed to the sun, if so, get TiZo3. It is a mineral based water-resistant sunscreen, it is made only of Zinc Oxide and Titanium      Dioxide, it has an SPF of 40 so it protects you from the sun’s UV rays as well as promote anti-aging properties like Vitamin C and Vitamin E, therefore it helps prevent sun-induced wrinkles and loss of firmness.
  • Wear your compression garment at all times unless advised otherwise by Dr. Carmona.
  • Shower the day after surgery and daily with antibacterial soap.
  • Make sure all incisions are dry before putting on gauze or compression garment.
  • Scars may be red and angry looking for 6 months. In time, these usually soften and fade.
  • Patients that required implants must not forget to ask for their implant box at the hospital.
  • FULFILL your online guarantee at www.mibusto.com (1 month valid)
